2025 Tree Professionals Seminar

Kenton Sena holds a B.A. in Biology from Asbury University, and an M.S. in Forestry and Ph.D. in Integrated Plant and Soil Sciences from the University of Kentucky. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Lewis Honors College at the University of Kentucky, where he teaches honors classes in ecology and the environment and conducts research in urban reforestation and restoration ecology.

Since he was a preschooler, Bill has loved trees; climbing them and learning from them. He graduated from Mississippi State and received his MS and PhD from Louisiana State University. He was at the University of Kentucky for 43 years and has been “retired” for three years. While on the UK faculty he taught plant materials, arboriculture, and assisted Extension agents and green industry professionals. He has taken sabbaticals in Singapore and Malaysia where he taught arborists for the ISA Arborist Certification credential and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. He is a Board Certified Master Arborist, Registered Consulting Arborist, Tree Risk Assessment Qualified and Tree and Plant Appraisal Qualified. He identifies as a Tree-Hugger and Soil-Worshiper and is Pawpaw to 7 young saplings.

Joe Moeglin and Matt Leiden are regional urban foresters in Northeast Ohio that have been with the Division of Forestry for a collective 8 years and in the arboricultural world for 11 years. Both are Certified Arborists and TRAQ Qualified from the International Society of Arboriculture.

David Bienemann serves as the municipal arborist/utility forester for the City of Hamilton, Ohio. He coordinates and directs the utility line clearance program for the City’s Electric Division. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP School, where he teaches in the Horticulture program. Dave graduated with degrees from Iowa State University (Forestry) and the University of Akron in Labor Economics.

Dan Grady is a Project Manager, and has spent the last 29 years with Arvin Sango, a major automotive manufacturer based in Madison, Indiana. Over the years, he’s taken on key roles in Quality, Training, and Project Management.

In 2013, he started coordinating Arvin Sango’s tree planting program, which set out to plant 20,000 trees in six years. By 2019, the goal was surpassed with more than 22,000 trees planted on company property. The program used the afforestation method developed by Dr. Akira Miyawaki.

Josh Hill holds degrees in Horticulture and Sustainable Horticulture from Cincinnati State and brings over 15 years of hands-on experience in the field. His work spans the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanic Garden’s Horticulture Department and CREW Plant Lab, Cincinnati Parks’ Krohn Conservatory, Burnet Woods, and Mt. Storm. For the past five years, he has curated the Mt. Airy Arboretum in Mt. Airy Forest, focusing on collection care, historical records, and long-term development goals.
