Each month in the Montgomery Bulletin you will see, “Where in Montgomery is Terry?” And what type of tree is he near? Terry Willenbrink is Montgomery’s City Arborist/Public Works Supervisor. He has worked for the Public Works Department for the City of Montgomery since June 1986 as well as in various capacities in the department as equipment operator, foreman of paver walk installation crew, Parks & Beautification supervisor, and City arborist. He holds a certificate in Horticulture, is a certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture, and is licensed as a commercial applicator with the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The “Where is Terry” game became an idea to educate the Montgomery community about the parks and to invite the community to explore the parks as they try to complete the search. The game also serves as an opportunity for the community to see the importance of trees and understand the significance of being named a Tree City.
To participate, residents submit their name and answers to “Where in Montgomery is Terry?” And what type of tree is he near?to whereisterry@ci.montgomery.oh.us by the 20th of the month. If both questions are answered correctly residents are automatically entered into a drawing to have a tree planted in their honor at one of the City of Montgomery parks. An additional entry can be earned by submitting a selfie with the correct tree in the correct park. The answers are revealed in the following month’s bulletin. The winner of the contest will be named in October of 2016.
Kudos to The City of Montgomery for coming up with a fun and creative way to educate it’s residents about the importance of trees in the community and thank you to Terry Willenbrink for sharing with the Taking Root Community.
