Miyawaki Mini Forest Initiative Continues to Grow with ADVICS Ohio Manufacturing Campus

ADVICS, a manufacturing company in Lebanon, OH, became the first corporate location of a mini forest in Ohio in April. As part of a company-wide commitment to greater sustainability, ADVICS intends to plant hundreds of trees at their various locations. Zach Smith, the staff member who heads up their sustainability efforts, heard about Taking Root’s Miyawaki Mini Forest Initiative and asked if they could partner with us. Zach sat in on our Miyawaki planning team meetings, turned to us for technical assistance, and did a lot of research on his own. The result was the planting of over 300 trees in a 900 sq ft mini forest on their property. ADVICS employees and Taking Root volunteers teamed up to plant the forest in an area that previously had been overgrown with honeysuckle. Zach hopes this will be the first of a number of mini forests on their property.
