Seeds to Trees
Seeds to Trees is a grassroots effort to get more trees planted worldwide, by showing one how to collect tree seeds locally, plant them in buckets, and give the seedlings away, for free, within one’s community. Check out their step-by-step instruction at: seedstotrees.org.
It’s easy, costs virtually nothing to do, and anyone can participate; individuals, families, friends, student organizations, civic clubs, scout troops, religious groups, etc.
Seedlings can be given away at work, special events, businesses (Graeters, LaRosa and Starbucks are always receptive), Lenten fish fries, etc. The seedlings are very popular. Starbucks’ baristas say that customers show them pictures of their newly planted seedlings, and thank them ‘for doing this’. Then the baristas tell us ‘thank YOU for making this happen!’
‘Think Globally, Act Locally’
There are many acres of sprawling suburban lawn, in every community. Let’s encourage people to plant trees in those lawns by putting trees right in front of them. This is something tangible, with immediate and visible results, that you can do to help the environmental. If lots of people participate, the impact can be huge. Get started at: seedstotrees.org. Thank you!
